 The fifth grade Language Arts curriculum develops and deepens students’ reading skills in both fiction and informational text through the following Units of Study:

  • Tackling Complexity: Moving Up Levels of Nonfiction
  • Mentor Text: When Lunch Fights Back: Wickedly Clever Animal Defenses, by Rebecca L. Johnson
  • Considering Perspectives & Supporting Opinions
  • Genre Study: Historical Fiction
  •  Mentor Text: My Brother Sam is Dead, by James L. Collier & Christopher Collier
 Word study, spelling, and vocabulary are embedded within each unit.
