Classroom Overview

Preschool Special Education Program at The Sherman School is an integrated educational model where typical children and children with special needs play, work, learn, share and cooperate together through the guidance and structure provided by the professionals involved. Children learn best when provided with opportunities to explore, create, imagine and play in a nurturing environment. Activities and tasks are presented in a functional and pragmatic manner through the early childhood domains as described in The CT Early Learning and Development Standards (CT  ELDS) - Cognition, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Health, Language and Literacy, Creative Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

The preschool schedule focuses on independent/self help skills, circle time activities, snack, quiet book time, motor/movement activities, structured free play and language/cognitive tasks.  The preschoolers attend 'specials' (library, art, music, PE) as well as other related school events.  It's always a busy time in preschool!
