Sherman’s department of curriculum and instruction is dedicated to supporting teachers in their effort to provide our students the most rigorous and enriching educational experience possible. We continuously analyze and improve the caliber, content and assessment of instruction to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with the CT Core Standards. We research, share and implement best teaching and learning practices designed to meet the diverse learning needs of our students and to ensure that a rigorous, articulated and relevant PreK-8 curriculum and instructional program is delivered for the purpose of raising student achievement. Curriculum
The K-8 framework that identifies the concept, information and skill for a class and helps to provide consistency and continuity of instruction.
Instruction
The strategies for engaging students in active learning and for tailoring these experiences to meet the individual needs of students, so that all students improve their performance, and the resources used to deliver the curriculum.
Assessment
The systems by which we measure our students’ progress, and the accountability system to which we report students’ progress.
Professional Development/Educator Evaluation
Fairly and accurately evaluate performance and help each educator strengthen his/her practice for the purpose of enhancing student learning.
